News & Events

The results of a recent pilot study in Australia show that improvements to an Award participant’s self-confidence, ability to cope with change (resilience), leadership, overall effectiveness and active involvement could be directly attributed to participation in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.

Congratulations to the 124 young men and women who received their Gold Award certificates from Her Excellency The Right Honourable Dame Patsy Reddy, Governor-General of New Zealand (pictured in blue, front row) at two Gold Award Ceremonies held in Auckland on Sunday 9 July. It was a privilege to see your hard work and tireless efforts rewarded!

Congratulations to Chris Stagg, a 25-year-old Gold Award holder from Christchurch who has been selected to represent New Zealand at the International Gold Event in Prague, Czech Republic, 25-30 October 2017.

His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh is stepping down from public engagements from August this year, and we wish him all the very best for his most well-deserved retirement - at the amazing age of 95! He will continue to be associated with over 780 organisations such as The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award (and the Aotearoa New Zealand / Hillary Award) but he will no longer play an active role by attending engagements. Since founding the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in 1956 The Duke has worked tirelessly to enable millions of young people to have the opportunity to transform their lives through participation in the Award. We remain immensely grateful to HRH for his continued Patronage and send him our thanks and good wishes.
