Interested in mentoring young people through The Programme?
- Contact the team at the National Office and request an 'Interested OA Kit'. (OA means Operating Authority - that is someone who holds a license from us to deliver The Programme). Phone 0800 69 29 27.
- Once received, check it out and contact us if you have any queries.
- There is an application form included in the Kit that needs to be completed (includes Police Vetting).
- Return to us, with payment, to the National Office - P O Box 31 688, Lower Hutt 5040 and we will arrange for the set up to take place.
- We will send you details to complete the required online training and once this has been successfully completed we will send you the appropriate resources.
The Role of an Operating Authority Co-ordinator:
- Learn about The Award and promote it through good public relations e.g. community centres, local media, notice boards, school assembly, reports to head of organisation, Board of Trustees, PTA, magazines.
- Obtain operational literature (Handbooks, Record Books, promotional material etc ) from National Award Office.
- Launch The Award; motivate young people to take part.
- Inform parents, gain their consent and support.
- Register participants and give participants a Record Book and other information.
- Discuss with participants their choice of activities and keep in regular contact.
- Help participants find instructors and assessors by establishing a resource file and maintaining wide contact with the local community.
- Keep accurate records, order badges and certificates and complete annual census form, keep the National Award Office advised of the general progress or otherwise of The Award.
- Arrange for the head of organisation/principal etc to sign the completed Record Book, arrange for the names and dates to be printed on certificates, arrange for the badges to be presented as soon as possible and the certificates to be presented at a public occasion or the end-of-year prize-giving ceremony.
- Attend meetings, courses or seminars organised by The Award.
- Ensure the operation of The Programme meets the requirements and that the standards of The Award are upheld.
