Physical Recreation

The aim of the Physical Recreation Section is to encourage participation in physical recreation and improvements of performance.


Young people are required to select an activity and follow it regularly for at least an hour per week in their leisure time over the following minimum periods of time:

Bronze the choice is for a minimum of 3 months or 6 months.

Silver must be completed for a minimum of 6 months.

Gold must be completed for a minimum of 12 months.

Participants must show improvement of overall performance, acquire knowledge of the rules and safety requirements and an appreciation of hazards involved in their chosen Physical Recreation.

Getting yourself involved in a physical activity may:

  • start you on a life long interest in a new activity
  • lead you to a healthier lifestyle
  • introduce you to a new group of people

Some examples of different activities you can do for your Physical Recreation are:

Racquet games

badminton, tennis etc.

Team games

basketball, hockey, volleyball etc.

Martial arts

judo, karate etc.

Personal pursuits

athletics, aerobics, weights etc.


ballroom, contemporary, jazz, ballet etc.

Water sports

diving, water skiing, rowing, swimming etc.

And ...

golf, yoga, skateboarding etc.
